Already now a classic tour: Seven summits in three days! The ultimate back-country experience in the area of the Damüls-Mellau ski area, carefully guided by the Mellau ski school.
“Freetouring” is a combination of ski mountaineering and freeride skiing (backcountry skiing). The best of both worlds is combined: short ascents and long downhills.
David Simma is an outdoor pro and a certified ski guide, which is why he is the perfect contact for the Freetour.
The Mellau Freetour stretches over three days. On a daily basis, you can book the entire Freetour or only individual days or sections with a private guide at the Mellau ski school.
Requirements: backcountry and ski mountaineering experience + physical stamina to conquer approx. 700m of altitude gain
On day one in the snow, the first of the seven summits is on the programme – including a long deep snow downhill. The day starts with a ski technique training. With the right tips it will be more fun.
Skis and skins will be first used in the afternoon, on the first and not too long Freetour starting from the ski area. At a suitable spot we will practice searching for an avalanche victim by using avalanche transceivers.
4 summits with short climbs each and longer deep snow downhills are on the programme. We get to the respective starting points by using the lifts of the Damüls-Mellau ski area. Enjoying the day is what is most important – the difficulty level is still moderate.
The last two summits of the Mellau Freetour – again by support of the lifts of the Damüls-Mellau ski areas – are on the programme. The technical highlight of the downhill ride is the Kanisrinne trench through the grim northern face of the Wannekopf summit. The Kanisfluh summit is the most challenging summit of the tour. Only a brief ascents is required for the Kaninsrinne trench, yet you need to conquer 600m of altitude gain to reach the Kanisfluh summit, which is a real ski mountaineering summit followed by a long downhill ride to the road.
